Fans in China placed a birthday ad for Hoshi (호시) of SEVENTEEN on a lightbox at Samseong Station in Seoul. The headline is "HAPPY HOSHI DAY", and a white label at the top reads "권순영 6월15일 생일 축하합니다" ("Happy birthday on 15 June, Kwon Soon-young"). The ad is filed in our 2023 archive. Below is what we can see in the photos, plus the steps for fans overseas who want to do the same.

Where was the ad displayed?

The folder and the file names both say Samseong Station on Line 2, in a lightbox position. In the photos the panel is on a white brick wall in a long passage. A row of other illuminated ads runs along the same wall further down.

The exact corridor is not written in our records.

What did the ad look like?

The background is a deep violet. On the right is a close photo of Hoshi on stage with a headset microphone, and behind him his stage name is set in very large Korean block letters.

On the left, the text is stacked in layers. The top line has "0615" and "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU". Next comes the white label with his birth name and the date. The headline "HAPPY HOSHI DAY" sits in the middle, and under it a rounded white bar says "내 세상에서 언제나 반짝 빛나", roughly "You always sparkle in my world".

Lower down are "KWON SOON YOUNG" and "I TIGER U", and a small "LOVE" tag in the corner.

Who organized it?

The bottom edge of the ad reads "CHINA_HOSHIBAR & CHINA HOSHI FANS". That is the credit as printed, and it is all we state about who was behind it. We have no record of the exact days it was lit, so the run dates are blank.

Many fans who write to us live far from Korea, and this panel is a reminder that distance does not stop a birthday message from reaching a busy Seoul station.

What is a subway lightbox ad?

A lightbox is a backlit frame on a station wall. The print inside is lit evenly from behind, so colours stay strong in a corridor with no daylight.

This design shows how much text one panel can hold when it is arranged in bands: a date line, a formal greeting, a headline, a personal line and a credit. Fans often mix Korean and English this way so that both local commuters and visiting fans can read it.

How can fans overseas place a similar ad in Korea?

This ad came from fans outside Korea, and yours can too. The steps are:

  1. Fix the occasion and the day, such as a birthday.
  2. Choose the medium and area: a lightbox in a station you care about, a screen door, digital screens or a bus.
  3. Get your wording and photos ready, and confirm that you are allowed to use them.
  4. Write to us with your plan. We will tell you which options are open for your dates.

Popular stations fill up around well-known birthdays, so earlier contact gives you more positions to choose from.
