In July 2019, fans in the Philippines congratulated MAMAMOO (마마무) on five years together with an ad inside a Seoul subway station. The screen read "Congratulations on your 5th Anniversary" in English and Korean, and it ended with a line telling the group the fans would see them soon. Here is what this MAMAMOO anniversary ad looked like, and what it shows about ordering an ad from abroad.

Where was the ad displayed?

The ad was shown on a framed screen set into a white tiled wall of a subway station. Our files place it on the Seoul metropolitan subway. Nothing in the photo names the station or the line, so we are leaving both out.

The photo shows a single screen. We do not know whether the same artwork was shown on other screens in the station.

What did the ad look like?

The artwork is built around one group photo: four members posed in and around an open car, in evening clothes, in deep blue and violet light.

The text sits above the photo in three lines. The first is in English: "Congratulations on your 5th Anniversary". The second gives the same message in Korean and adds a promise: "5주년을 축하합니다. 앞으로도 영원히 함께 할게요." That is, "Congratulations on your 5th anniversary. We will be with you forever." The third line, in pale blue and violet letters, reads "곧 필리핀에서 만나요", which means "See you soon in the Philippines."

Across the bottom is a credit line in white: "Sponsored by Filipino Moomoos. Organized by Mamamoo Philippines." A "MAMAMOO PHILIPPINES" logo closes the design in the lower right corner.

When did it run?

Our photo was taken on 22 July 2019. That is the only date we can attach to the ad. We have no record of its first or last day on the screen.

Who organized it?

The ad answers this itself. It says it was "Sponsored by Filipino Moomoos" and "Organized by Mamamoo Philippines", and we are repeating those words exactly as they appear.

For fans reading this from outside Korea, that credit line is the encouraging part. A fan group based in another country put its own name, in its own words, on a screen in Seoul.

What is a subway digital screen ad?

Many subway stations have display screens mounted on walls and pillars in the areas people walk through. An ad there is an image shown on the screen for a booked period, in a place where commuters pass at walking pace.

A screen suits a design like this one, which depends on a detailed photo and several lines of text in two languages. The light comes from behind the image, so dark colours stay rich and small white type stays sharp. If your message needs room for a credit line as well as a greeting, this is a format that can carry it.

How can fans overseas place a similar ad in Korea?

As this ad shows, a fan group overseas can plan a subway ad in Korea. These are the usual steps:

  1. Pick what you are celebrating and the date it falls on.
  2. Think about where it should be seen: on a city bus, inside a subway station or somewhere else.
  3. Prepare your message and photos, and make sure you have the right to use them.
  4. Share your idea with us. We will come back with what is open for the dates you want.

If you want your fan group's name or logo on the artwork, include it when you send your idea so it can be part of the layout from the start.

You can read each stage on How It Works. If you already have a date in mind, send a quote request. Costs vary by space and schedule, so please contact us for a quote.
