EXO Baekhyun Birthday Bus Ad in Seoul (2018)

In spring 2018, we ran a birthday ad for EXO's Baekhyun (백현) on a Seoul city bus for the Chinese fan club Baidu Chanbaek Bar and the fan club DazzlingBear. Pale blue-grey artwork on the sides and rear carried the numbers "19920506", the Korean greeting "생일축하합니다" ("Happy birthday") and the words "HAPPY BaekHyun DAY". This page shows how the ad looked and explains how fans abroad can plan a similar one with us.

Where was the ad displayed?

We placed the ad on the outside of a blue Seoul city bus, no. 506. The artwork went on the road side, the door side and the rear.

What did the ad look like?

The design is quiet and light: an off-white background with a pale blue border, and text in shades of blue with one touch of pink.

Road side. The long banner puts a photo of Baekhyun in a dark jacket in the middle. To the left, "19920506" is printed in large numbers, light blue for the year and dark blue for the day, with "생일축하합니다" written over it in pink handwriting. A thin line of Korean above the numbers reads "내 사랑이 널 지킬 테니", or "Because my love will protect you". To the right is "HAPPY BaekHyun DAY". The lower corners carry the fan club names "BAIDU CHANBAEK BAR" and "DAZZLINGBEAR". A small upright section near the back shows another photo with "Happy Birthday" in white script.

Door side. A long banner reads "최고의 보컬 변백현!", a line of praise for his singing that uses his full name, Byun Baekhyun. Beside the door, a larger section has a full-length photo in a grey suit, the faint numbers "1992" and "0506" in the background, and the greeting "백현아 27번째 생일축하해!" ("Baekhyun, happy 27th birthday!"). It is signed "LOVE FROM BAIDU CHANBAEK BAR & DAZZLINGBEAR".

Rear. The strip above the tail lights carries a single line in white: "백현아 네 웃는 그 모습을 지켜 주고 싶어", roughly "Baekhyun, I want to protect that smile of yours".

When did it run?

The ad ran for one month from 10 April 2018. It went on the road close to four weeks before the birthday date on the ad, "0506" (6 May), and was still up on the day.

Who organized it?

The Chinese fan club Baidu Chanbaek Bar and the fan club DazzlingBear organized this ad together, and we handled the booking and installation in Seoul. Both names are printed on the ad.

What is a Seoul bus exterior ad?

It is artwork printed on adhesive vinyl sheets that are applied to the outside of a city bus. The road side offers the longest unbroken space. The door side is divided by the doors into a banner and a squarer section. The rear takes a narrow strip that drivers behind the bus read at traffic lights.

This ad uses each space for a different length of text. The long side holds the date and headline, the square section holds a greeting with the age, and the rear holds one full sentence. If you have a lot to say, spreading it this way keeps every section easy to read.

How can fans overseas place a similar ad in Korea?

Fans outside Korea can plan a birthday ad without being here. The outline is:

1. Decide what you are celebrating and on which date.
2. Decide where the ad will appear: a city bus, a subway station or another place.
3. Prepare the message and the photos, and be sure you have the right to use them.
4. Send us your idea. We will reply with the options that are open for your dates.

When two fan groups share one ad, as on this bus, agree on the exact spelling of both names before the artwork is made.
